This is the date that the Second Spanish Republic had been instituted. The government prior to the election was composed of liberal and center left parties and the most powerful Spanish groups who were supporters of the monarchy. The formation occurred when the monarchy (Alfonso XIII) lost the election against the Republicans (more specifically the moderate center-left). The republic marked hope for the Spanish people from the lower classes deprived of rights in the past but also to the middle classes. This republic would be an extension of rights to the workers and would also be a start to education and women rights reforms.
