France, Great Britain, Germany, and Greece had the largest number of athletes, despite this, the United States manages to take the most first-place finishes out of any country ( Followed by Greece and then Germany).

James Connolly becomes the first modern Olympic champion taking home a silver medal and an olive branch (the latter of which was a reward given out in ancient Olympics), for his first place in Triple jump, later he would go on to achieve a second and third in different events.
