jan 1, 1930 - The Catholic Church missionaries monopolizes
teaching in Rwanda
Description:
The Catholic Church missionaries monopolized
teaching in Rwanda, akin to the residential schools established to assimilate Indigenous children in Canada's history. Education for Hutu children were leading them towards manual labour, and Tutsi children were taught that they were superior than the Hutu. These missionaries were also sent to imbue Indigenous people to a more European character, as was the same when missionaries came to assimilate Canada's Indigenous peoples. The most prominent root of these actions taken by Belgium, especially these missionaries, point to a strong belief in Eurocentrism. The resulting change within the Indigenous peoples are rapidly growing racial tensions and divisions.
