sep 9, 1739 - Stono Rebellion
Description:
In this day, a group of slaves, under the leadership of Jemmy, rose up in a rebellion. They organized the rebellion on the Stono River. They broke into a store and armed themselves with weapons, then they started marching off calling for liberty. Whites encountered were chased and killed, and reluctant slaves were forced to join the group. Informed about the rebellion, the whites, armed, approached the rebels, and more than half of the slaves were killed. The rest were captured and executed.
