Description:

Mussolini allied himself with Adolf Hitler and relied on the German dictator to boost his leadership during World War II but he was killed shortly after the German surrender in Italy in 1945. As Italy slipped into political chaos, Mussolin declared that only he could restore order and was given the authority in 1922 as prime minister. Mussolini gradually dismantled the institutions of democratic government and in 1925 made himself dictator, taking the title 'll Duce'. He set about attempting to re-establish italy as a great European power. Mussolini was overthrown and imprisoned by his former colleagues in the fascist government.
