In 1937 the imperial Japanese arms brutally murdered thousands of citizens from the city of Nanjing and this also includes soldiers, this happened over a period of six weeks. The events that occurred on these six weeks are known as the Nanjing massacre and is also commonly called the rape of Nanjing because of the rape that occurred to the women of Nanjing. Between twenty thousand and eighty thousand women were sexually assaulted. Nanjing which is the capital city of nationalist china was left in ruins from all of the fighting. From all of the destruction caused from the rape of Nanjing it took decades for the whole of the city to recover from the attacks.
The aftermath of the massacre. There are no clearly known numbers about the death toll in the Nanjing massacre, the estimations about the death toll ranges from two hundred thousand all the way up to three hundred thousand. After the war Matsuri and Tani were convicted of war crimes by the international military tribunal for the far east, and they were executed for this. The anger of the rape of Nanjing is still present to this day the nature of the massacre is affecting relationships with japan which is not being taken lightly. The nature of the past event is being exaggerated and exploited, which is leading to it being used for propaganda purposes by historical revisionists and Japanese nationalists. Some people have claimed that the number of deaths have been exaggerated and some say that the number of deaths has been under exaggerated. Other have also denied that the existence of this event is even present.
