A charter of rights agreed to by King John of England that promised the protection of church rights, protection for the barons from illegal imprisonment, access to swift justice, and limitations on feudal payments to the crown. The Magna Carta introduces the rule of law in which every person despite power or status is held legally responsible for their actions as well as introducing the idea of a jury/ being tried by your peers.
