aug 30, 1995 - Operation Deliberate Force
AUG 30-SEP 20: The Bosnian War was fought between Croat-Bosnian and Serbian forces. After Bosnia declared independence, the Serb-Bosnians launched an attack on Bosnian capital, Sarajevo. What followed was a brutal war that included, among other crimes, ethnic cleansing on behalf of the Serbs. Garnering international attention, the U.N. soon asked NATO to step in and defend certain ”safe zones” under attack by the Serbian forces. Operation Deliberate Force was a series of strategic airstrikes designed to stop the mass murdering taking place in Bosnia. 3,515 sorties were flown by NATO and its allies to strike 338 targets. This destroyed the inertia the Serbian forces had gathered and eventually brought the war to a halt.
