The invention of the telephone is significant because it allowed people to communicate in ways that were unheard of until Alexander Graham Bell came up with the invention of the telephone. People could then communicate without having to be in the presence of each other and as improvements to the telephone were made people could do so many more things with a phone. Nowadays around 44% of the people in the world own a smartphone and it was Bell who laid the foundations for such an advanced technological world.
