mar 25, 1807 - Abolition of the Slave Trade

Description:

The abolition of the slave trade meant that slaves could not be bought or sold within the British colonies, which was a step forward in showing that black people still have rights. It took quite a while for slave trade to be abolished in Britain. But the end of the slave trade encouraged other nations to end their slave trade, but it did not end slavery as a whole. Many slaves were able to go free due to the end of the slave trade within the British Empire and in 1833 slavery was ended in Britain which sent over 800 000 enslaved people free. Many other nations followed in Britain's footsteps and slavery is illegal in most places now.
