Causes -
The German-Soviet Treaty for Nonaggression produced consternation in British and French capitals. Around September 1939, after Germany invaded Poland from the west, Soviet troops invaded Poland from the east around September 17, confronting the advancing Germans close to Brest-Litovsk two days later

Effects-
1939 just before World War II broke out in Europe rivals Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union shocked the world by signing the German-Soviet Non-aggression Pact, in which the two nations agreed to take no military action against each other for the next 10 years.
