Description:

On February 9, 1898 Hearst’s New York Journal released text of a letter, which was stolen by a Cuban Spy, from a Spanish official, Dupuy de Lome. In the letter Lome called President McKinley weak and a bidder for the admiration of the crowd.” The breach in diplomatic etiquette was such that de Lome resigned to prevent further embarrassment to his government.
