jan 1, 1890 - 1890: Sherman Anti-trust Act
Description:
In 1890 the Sherman Antitrust Act was approved that forbade the contracts, combinations, or conspiracies in restraint of trade or in the effort to establish monopolies in interstate or foreign commerce. A broad consensus put the vague law through, but its passage turned out to be largely symbolic. Administrations rarely enforced the law, from 1890-1901 only 18 suits were filed and 4 were against labor unions.
