Homer Plessy was arrested in New Orleans, LA for boarding a whites only train car as a black man. He was found guilty of breaking the law in court and appealed the decison to the Supremem Court. In a 7-1 ruling the Supremem COurt decided that the doctrine of "Separate but Equal" was constitutional thus making the Jim Crow Segregation Laws legal. This would last until the decision was over turned in 1954 in the Brown vs Board of Education Case.
