dec 3, 1854 - Eureka Stockade

Description:

The Eureka Stockade is significant because it was an event that was a part of Australia's views on egalitarianism and democracy and Australia's development in its representational structure. The Eureka Stockade is also significant because before it was a gold rush which, similarly to the California gold rush, dramatically increased Victoria's population from 76,000 to 540,000. Due to the dramatic increase in people, Victoria was struggling financially, so to raise money the governor started charging money to work in the mines, this, in turn, angered the miners which then led to the Eureka Stockade. 24 miners died and some soldiers did too during the Eureka Stockade.
