mar 31, 1889 - The Eiffel Tower in France was completed

Description:

The Eiffel Tower was designed by a man named Gustave Eiffel. The construction itself lasted two years, and the building wasn’t meant to last. It was supposed to be in place for 20 years and would then be destroyed. However, the structure attracted over 2 million people to visit, and then became a symbol of French industrial success. Construction on the tower began on January 28th, 1887 and ended on March 31st in 1889, the same day that Gustave Eiffel walked all 1,710 steps to the top and placed the French flag. At the time, the tower was 312 metres high. The tower is now 324 metres high to the tip and has 3 stories. The Eiffel Tower was of great use during the First World War as a radio antenna and experiments were also conducted concerning its astronomical and physiological purpose.
