It was a treaty signed by the U.S. and Britain that established the boundary between United States and Canadian territories at the 49th parallel. The treaty did many good things. What is did was secured U.S. fishing rights along Newfoundland and Labrador, gave joint control of the Oregon Territory, and finally gave the United States and Britain a better relationship.Added to timeline:
