(Portugal) A prince named Dom Pedro was supposed to be given the power to govern Brazil whenever his father died but he was stripped of his power one responsibility at a time until he was left with nothing. When he lost his power he lost his loyalty to the motherland. They officially became independent when he wrote a letter to his father.
