Description:

On August 4th, 1878, George Robinson of the Wairewa runanga called the attention of the local authorities and the Central Board of Health to the fact that owing to an impure water supply, and unsanitary housing at the pa, fever was rife, and that 19 Maoris had died and 11 were in a precarious condition and requiring medical attention.
