Description:

The Washington Naval Treaty was a treaty signed on the 6th of February in 1922. The treaty was signed by the major nations that had one the first world war and its purpose was to prevent an arms race by limiting naval construction. The world's largest military forces gathered in Washington, D.C. around 1921 and 1922 for a conference on naval disarmament and ways to alleviate increasing tensions in East Asia. This treaty was signed by the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, France and Italy and was also referred to as The Five-Power Treaty as the 5 countries that signed it were the ‘winners’ of the first world war.
