The Minister of Works, Mr Goosman, calls a conference of South Auckland local bodies to discuss the Government's proposals to build up to 1000 state houses in East Tamaki (Otara). Manukau County Council, which has zoned the area for rural purposes, prefers Mangere as a site for the development (see also 25 July 1956).
