jan 1, 1959 - We constantly try to justify our experiences so that they make sense to us.-Leon Festinger
Description:
Leon Festinare created an experiment where he asked test subjects to perform dull tasks such as turning pegs in a wooden knob for an hour. They were paid either 1 dollar or 20 to tell a “waiting participant” who was actually a researcher that the task was very interesting. those who were paid 1 dollar to lie said the tasks were more enjoyable then those who were paid 20. Those who got paid more felt they had justification for performing the dull task for an hour, but those who were paid 1 dollar felt they needed to justify the time they spent.
