jan 1, 1843 - A Christmans Carol
Description:
Written by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol is an important work from this time which reflects a view on that times society.
Ebenezer Scrooge is a greedy businessman and is visited by his former partner one night. Jacob Marley and the spirits of christmas past, present and future teach Ebenezer a valuable lesson. He is taught to stop being greedy and share his wealth with the less fortunate.
This is a critique on the 19th century society where rich capitalists run the society and offer poor paying jobs with horrific working conditions. This is not a great time for the working class and that is why socialism gains ground at this time and is perhaps an inspiration to a Charles Dickens.
