Description:

The United States and the Soviet Union divided Korea along the 38th Parallel at the end of World War II during the Yalta conference. The Soviet Union occupied the north of Korea while the United States occupied the South with the boundary between their two zones being the 38th parallel. The Soviets installed a Communist govenment and helped improve its armed forces while the US provided a smaller amount of aid to the South.
