Description:

The Social Welfare and Cultural Activities Committee was established in 1971 as the successor to the Property and Health Committee having taken over responsibility for the Library and Art Gallery. When it lost these responsiblities in 1974 to the Cultural Activities and Property Committee, it became the Social Welfare Committee.
Responsibilities (1972):
Welfare development and services; Art gallery; Library and the cultural needs of the city; Council property management except workshops, service buildings and public utilities; administration of acts, regulations and bylaws relating to health; to provide pensioner housing.
