jan 1, 1860 - 1860 Lincoln's Election
Description:
The election of Lincoln was the final straw in the push to the civil war. The election of Lincoln was the first presidential election that a candidate won the presidential election without winning the southern states. This scared the Southerners because this was now proof that the North could fully decide the presidency, and a little over a month after the polls closed South Carolina made the decision to secede from the Union.
