mar 3, 1820 - The Missouri Compromise (P and E)
Description:
After a debate on whether or not admitting Missouri as a free state would cause an imbalance to the amount of free vs. slave states, a compromise was reached that admitted Missouri into the union as a slave state, while Maine, formally a part of the Massachusetts Territory, was admitted into the union as a free state. This was a solution to one of the first large dilemmas on whether slavery should be allowed or not.
