The Yalta Conference was a meeting between the US, Great Britian, and the Soviet Union. Korea was one focus at this conference. It is a pinnensula that is seperated from China by the Yalu River. At the Yalta Conference, Korea was divided into two independent countries by the US and the Soviet Union after WWII. The 38th parallel was the latitude line that divided the two nations from each other. The north was made communist and supported with armed forces by the Soviet Union . The south was noncommunist and given limited amounts of aid by the US. However, American military presence remained in SOuth Korea until June of 1949.
