oct 16, 1859 - John Brown’s raid on Harper’s Ferry

Description:

1)John Brown organized a small band of white allies and free blacks and raided a government arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. He hoped to seize weapons and distribute them to Southern slaves in order to spark a wracking series of slave uprisings. But due to the bad organization work, John Brown himself was captured and executed. 2)At first John Brown was denounced as a murderer, criminal and madman. But after his execution, he was seemed as martyr and hero in the north. This outraged the southerners and they thought this revealed the north's intention to start a race war in the south. The raid intensified the hostility between the north and the south.
