The Tamaki Regeneration Company issued and Expression of Interest for the first phase of the redevelopment of Tamaki (east Auckland), looking for developers and investors capable of delivering on large scale construction projects. The first phase would see about 1,000 social houses transformed into about 2,500 new mixed-tenure houses.
The closing date for submissions was 27 September 2016, with development expected to begin by late 2017.
The redevelopment of 2,500 social houses (formerly properties of the Housing New Zealand Corporation) in the area was being lead by the Tamaki Regeneration Company – established in 2012 as a joint-venture between the Auckland Council and the Government. It was intended to deliver 7,500 social, affordable and private homes over the next 10 to 15 years.
