jan 1, 1837 - First Mechanical Computer (Analytical Engine)
Description:
Charles Babbage developed the concept of a programming computer. He designed the first mechanical computer. He called it the Analytical Engine. Working with him was Ada Lovelace, and they were known as the founders of modern computing. The Analytical Engine was designed by Charles in 1837, but he worked on it until his death in 1871. Due to issues, his machine was never built.
1) Without Babbage and Lovelace's idea of this Analytical Engine, Howard Hathaway Aiken, would have never been able to build or create the first large scale digital computer in the USA.
2) Babbage invented the Difference Engine, and, more importantly, the Analytical Engine. The latter is often recognized as a key step towards the formation of the modern computer.
3) It was the first design that we, would now call Turing Complete.
