oct 29, 1847 - George Boole publishes paper on Boolean logic and algebra
Description:
- Boolean logic is important because it compliments the usage of binary numbers in computing; 0 and 1 correlates to false and true respectively, allowing computers to perform logical operations (e.g. if statements)
- Boolean logic allowed for the future creation of logic gates in computers (OR, AND, NOT, etc.), which are the fundamental building blocks of calculators, processors, etc.
- The introduction of Boolean logic solidified formal logic as a branch of mathematics, in turn becoming one of the cornerstones of computer science
