mar 1, 1935 - Hitler introduced military conscription

Description:

Hitler realised the importance of re-arming Germany, if his aims were to be achieved, he would need a large armed force.

Although the TOV restricted the size of the army to 100,000 men, by 1936 the size had risen to 550,000 and this was further extended by 1938 where it rose to 850,000.

Expenditure on armaments also rose from 1,900m marks in 1933 to 32,300m marks in 1939.

Aircraft production also began at a fast pace, but only in 1943 did aircraft production per month equal that of Britain (2,000)

Hitler was financially backed by big businessmen. Owners of steel, coal, and armaments industries (like Krupp and Thyssen) saw huge profits by backing Hitler's industrial plans
