Another example of peaceful protesting gone wrong is when thousands of black children in Soweto protested against the requirement of learning Afrikaans in schools. It was estimated that 10,000 black school children were part of this protest. Without having a cause to strike, police became violent as tear gas and bullets were shot, killing over 100 protestors.
