The election of 1860 was the election that Abraham Lincoln was elected into office as the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln only received 40% of the popular vote but easily beat out the other competition. The thing about Abe was that he wanted to get rid of slavery and not everyone wanted that leading to more conflict.
