may 1, 1983 - Jack Szostak Releases his DNA Model
Description:
Jack Szostak released his model for gene editing that was initially heavily criticized but later accepted. This model showed that the best way to increase the efficiency of gene editing would be to slice the genome precisely where it needed to be edited. His model showed that you would first need to create a double-strand break where the edit was necessary, then provide the new DNA for the cell to repair the break with. This was a smarter method than some previous ones because using this method would effectively be tricking the cells into accepting this new DNA
