Description:
On July 20, 1908, the Juvenile Delinquents Act is given royal assent. It states, "Every juvenile delinquent shall be treated, not as a criminal, but as a misdirected and misguided child."
The act created separate juvenile courts for young offenders. The act restricted certain punishments and created more alternative sentences. It also created prisons that separated young offenders from adult offenders.
