jan 4, 331 BC - Wadi ed-Daliyeh Papyri
Description:
Excavated in 1962/3, the caves of Abu Shinjeh, Daliyeh, and Shib Qubur in Wadi ed-Daliyeh, north of Jericho, revealed the bodies of over 200 Samaritans who had fled from Alexander's troops following the Samaritan revolt against Alexander's governor. They had taken refuge in the caves, but were suffocated by the troops who had lit a fire at the caves' entrances. The most important finds from the cave are papyri fragments attesting personal documents, including sales of slaves, asn clay bullae bearing names and motifs in various local, Persian, and Greek styles.
