jul 20, 1885 - Chinese Head Tax discriminates against Chinese immigration

Description:

The chinese head tax was apart of the chinese immigration act, and it was a tax of $50/per person (later reaching its highest of $500) for immigrating to Canada. Making it near impossible for chinese immigrants who built the Canadian railway to bring their families to the country. It latest from 1885 until 1923, and when it was removed from the immigration act, Chinese immigration was banned until 1947.
This is extremely important for Chinese-Canadians who live in the country. It leaves a lasting scar on the current generations whose family members can still remember the racist tax. It also is a part of canadain identity because of the impact that chinese immigrants who made it to Canada left on the country(like the railway).
