Description:
- Charles II promised to support French policy in Europe in return for a French subsidy
- This meant that Charles was free from financial dependency on Parliament
- 2 treaties:
1.- SECRET
- Charles receives £200,000 and support of 6,000 French troops
- £300,000 a year enabling Charles to go war with Dutch
- Was concerned with the conversion of England to the Roman Catholic faith
- This was favoured by Charles
2.- FORMAL
- Concerned with the Anglo-French military and naval alliance
- Desired by Louis XIV
- Louis XIV was more interested in war
- Charles II was more interested in establishing Monarchical power
