Description:

In 1877 Japan opened up Tokyo Univerity. Japan had sent scholars abroad to study and learn about western practices, government, and society. The knowledge gained by the scholars would be used to modernize Japan. Selected governmental principles would have also been incorporated into the Japanese government.
