The Meiji restoration resulted in a more westernized society and government. Japan had begun to industrialize and modernize. The political revolution in 1868 brought about the final demise of the Tokugawa shogunate who was replaced with the emperor. Feudal Japan now has a form of government that had adopted select western principles.
