Description:

Goals: The south was trying to take over all southern forts held by the Union in the south, and Fort Sumter was one of the last ones. The Union wanted to keep control of the fort.
Leaders:
Union: Robert Anderson
Confederacy: P. G. T. Beaurugard
Results: Confederates bombarded the fort and after 34 hours, Anderson agreed to evacuate. The battle was the first conflict of the Civil War, setting the pretense of military conflict and both sides called for further military engagement.
