jan 1, 1350 - ITALY AND ENGLAND

Description:

The renaissance was first introduced in Italy, long before it reached Britain in the 16th century. The word renaissance is the French word for rebirth. European thinkers, writers and artists began to look back and celebrate the art and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. They dismissed the period after the fall of Rome as a "Middle" or even "Dark" age on which no scientific accomplishments had been made, no great art produced, no great leaders born.

In the renaissance pity towards God became less important. An important religious and political restruction was initiated by Henry VII. He cut the ties to the Church of Rome, and formed the Church of England and made himself the supreme head. A Catholic country now turned Protestant. Later his daughter Elizabeth took over, and her reign was characterised by stability. She played an important role in the cultural life of the time. There were no copyright, since it did not exist so writers started to make living by writing to the theatre.
