jan 1, 1926 - Arthur Holmes

Description:

Arthur Holmes was heavily drawn to Wegener's ideas of continental drift and used Wegener's ideas to form ideas of his own. Arthur Holmes added on to the idea that the mantle undergoes thermal convection. Thermal Convection is based on facts of "When a substance is heated, it's density increases and rises to the surface. After the object has risen to the surface, it will cool and get dense again, making it sink. This process repeats itself over and over." Arthur Holmes said that Convection Currents was enough to move the continents. Holmes also said that that process is like a conveyer belt and the pressure could potentially break apart the continents, resulting in continental drift.
