apr 11, 1965 - Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

Description:

This was enacted in 1965 and permitted federal funding for local and public school systems. One of the goals was to try to diminish the achievement gap between ELLs and English-speaking students through tougher standards and accountability. The current reauthorization of this act is the Every Student Succeeds Act, which was enacted in 2015.
