jan 1, 1596 - First observations that coastlines of continents fit together like a puzzle
Description:
Abraham Ortelius, in 1596, found that some types of plant fossils were in coal beds of Europe and North America. All of the coastlines look as though they could have all fit together like a puzzle. Frank Bursley Taylor believed that lunar gravity dragged the continents to the equator during continental drift.
