During the 8th Century when the Dark Ages were at its prime there was a ruler of an already large portion of Europe wanted to conquest and increase his empire and his rule. He eventually formed an alliance with the Pope, who was an already popular figure due to the main religion being Christianity and because the Catholic Church was the only Christian church at that time, who had crowned him with the role of the emperor.
