jan 1, 1912 - Strikes of 1912

Description:

Due to increasingly poor conditions in the mills, mill workers staged strikes for better wages, and safer conditions. They originally asked for a 15% raise in wages, and for managers to hire with no discrimination whatsoever. The workers went on strike by not going to work and quitting so that the factories could not function. The mayor stood with the protesters, and those who did not strike were referred to as "scabs". After lots of protests and strikes the managers only agreed to a 6% raise, and so the workers kept going on strike. Eventually, they were able to compromise a 10% raise and that the managers could not discriminate while hiring.
