feb 4, 1904 - Start of the Russo-Japanese War

Description:

The Japanese Imperial Navy attacks a Russian fleet. Only three hours later, an official declaration of war is received by the Russian government. What follows is a mainly naval conflict in which Russia suffers overwhelming defeats. This event is not only significant because it establishes Japan as the leading power in the east, but also because it is one of the many events that eventually lead to the February Revolution (the overthrow of the Tsarist autocracy).
